Fresh air and sunshine

Just like plants, sunshine and fresh air are important for healthy living. The outdoors are a great place to try your new healing habits like exercise. A little fresh air and outdoor activity can be a great replacement for one of your old bad habits. Being outdoor also allows your body to absorb sunlight. Sunlight is essential for our bodies as it stimulates the production of Vitamin D, which is essential for many of the body’s most basic functions.

Besides the physical benefits, outdoor recreation has tremendous mental and emotional benefits. Getting outside and being active is great for fighting depression, lessening anxiety and increasing energy/vigor.

Killer habits

Here are some tips to get you started

When it comes to the outdoors, there is a whole range of activities to choose from. Causal strolls through the park and picnics under a tree is a great start for many who haven’t had much experience in the elements. We do not suggest that you go on a 14-day backpack trek as your first experience, however if that is your goal we totally think thats awesome. Whatever it is you want to do, ease into it and just enjoy.

The outdoors, though beautiful, can be relatively unforgiving if you’re not prepared. At all times we advise that you take the appropriate, precautionary steps toward enjoying the outdoors. If it’s sunny, take a hat and some sunscreen. If its rainy, take a rain jacket, umbrella and/or other waterproof items. 

If you’re prepared, you’ll have a much better time!

Sometimes we get to bogged down in what we are doing that we cannot enjoy where we are.

For instance, if you’re on a hike and its hot, your climbing up hill and your struggling a little bit… its too easy to be beat down by that feeling. Take a second, pick up your gaze and look around. Enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. Try to take it all in; the sights, the smells, the sounds… everything.

If you’re going to be out for an extended period of time, it would be wise to take a snack with you. It will help you enjoy your experience just that much more. Sitting and having some delicious trail mix while taking in the view is a great experience. Just remember to pack your trash out so its just as beautiful as when you got there.
