Sweat a Little

Sweat a Little

“Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness” – Edward Stanley

Exercise is an important part of healthy living, however, more and more we are becoming dormant in our daily lives and it is harming our well being. Even just aiming for 30 minutes of moderate exercise can do wonders for your health. Some of the most basic benefits of regular exercise include:

  • Weight control
  • Fight against health conditions/diseases
  • Improves mood
  • Boosts energy
  • Better sleep
  • Increased libido
  • Improves body image
  • Overall sense of wellbeing
Killer habits
If you haven’t been exercising regularly, don’t over exhaust yourself.  Do what you can, but challenge yourself.  Try 30 minutes of something active like walking, jogging, or swimming at least 4-5 days a week.  Then when you are comfortable try increasing the workout intensity and/or duration.

Going to the gym to lift weights or running for 30 minutes may not appeal to everyone, but the good news is there are so many different forms of exercise and activities that you can be doing that get your heart rate up. All you have to do is try new things out and see what works best for you. The trick is to choose something that is fun for you, that way you are more likely to stick with it.

Here are some alternatives you can try out:

  • Jumping rope
  • Swimming
  • Dancing
  • Cycling
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Rowing
  • Hiking
  • Standup Paddle Boarding
  • Water aerobics
  • Organized sports
  • Skating

Don’t forget the buddy system

It always helps when you have someone to keep you accountable.  Try making plans with family or friends to work out with on a regular basis.  Not only does this make it more crucial that you keep your work out plans, but it also makes the whole experience more fun!
